It turned out to be a busy day again. This morning, I took care of a lot of CWI planning which I will firm up over the weekend. I got a call from Sun Graphics that the proof for my new book was ready. Dick was napping, so I drove over there and checked it over there were three corrections which I noted. Mary Kate said they would make the corrections and have at least one copy ready for me on Mondy morning so I can get it sent off to the chapbook contest. I think it looks good.

On the way home, I picked up food for Chelsea at the vets, went to the bank and filled up the gas tank.

I got home and racked the marigold wine. I need to ask Bobbie which of her wines need to be racked. I can do one a day unless they have too much sediment.

Dick and I had our leftover Sweet Basil food for lunch. Still really good. We usually get at least two sometimes three meals out of that outing.

I picked up Mother shortly before 1PM to take her to see Dr. Lavey at the Eye Clinic. She had noticed a change in her vision a couple of months ago but with all the other health issues, we had to wait until she was well enough to go. The tests show that the dry macular degeneration is advancing, very slowly, but it is advancing. At this point there is really nothing else that can be done. There is no cure. The Vite Eyes that she takes every day does help slow the advancement of the disease but it will keep advancing. She felt a mixed feeling of relief and disappointment. Relief because the doctor said that she does not have to worry about straining or over using the eyes, disappointment because there is no cure. Fortunately it is a slow degeneration.

I got home in time to feed everybody and change before Nancy Roehre picked me up to go to Rhine to shoot pistol and then on to the Plymouth Art Museum to attend the opening of the new exhibits. They do have really nice openings. Music all evening, wine, nice hors D'oeurves and the chance to meet the artists. This is an exhibit of photography, ceramics and ceramics and ironwork. The photographer is from Cedarburg, Marcia L. Getto. She is so inventive eg. pictures of drops of dew on a flower. The potter and blacksmith are a married couple, Sylvia and Mark Mondloch from Random Lake. Nancy was a great source of information tonight as she is a docent at the museum and had special showing with the artists earlier this week. She was able to give me insight as to the techniques and backgrounds of some of the individual pieces. I ran into several friends and renewed some contacts at this exhibit. Lots of fun.

Bob Weber was there. He is a friend from Blessed Trinity in Sheboygan Falls and a friend of Nancy. Bob has purchased several small pieces from Sylvia and Mark Mondlach at their place in Random Lake. Many of them are simple pieces and quiet inexpensive, unlike the unique art pieces displayed here. Nancy and I have agreed to go there some day on a field trip and just purchase a few.

Hope your day ended up at UP as mine.

God love you

Home all day today. That was OK, except it is a bit discouraging in that Sun Graphics was supposed to call me to come in and check the proof on my new book. I HAVE to send a copy postmarked Feb 1, to a chapbook contest and I have not even seen the proof yet. I don't care about the major part of the order, I just need one copy.

Joan came to clean the house this morning. She said that Bonnie's Housekeeping could use my old raggedy towels, so I put them in bags and then forgot to give them to her. Oh well, they will be just as raggedy next week.

We had roast pork and stuffing for our lunch and soup and roast beef sandwich for our supper. Tomorrow we will eat our leftovers from Sweet Basil and the next day is the wild game dinner so I have some easy days again. I do have to fix the venison roast in Guiness for the dinner. I'll start it very early on Saturday morning.

Tomorrow, I will be taking Mother to the eye doctor. She has noticed a change in her vision again and they have told her to come in whenever that happens. Tomorrow night I will go shoot pistol with Nancy and then she and I are going to the Plymouth Art Center for the opening of their new exhibit. We will only stay about an hour. Long enough to see the exhibit, have a snack and chat with a few people.

So that is it for today. It is cold, 4 degrees, and is supposed to drop down even lower tonight. Now, if I could just get Chelsea to use the bathroom. Just think, January is almost over already. Monday will be the first of February and Tuesday will be Groundhog's Day. Wickipedia says : According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If on the other hand, the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.

In Punxutwaney, PA they have a big celebration and bring a groundhog out of his lair to predict the end of winter. They call him Punxutwaney Phil. For many years a man with the last name of Deeley was the keeper of the groundhog. We often wondered if he was a relative.

This was a busier than usual Wednesday that ended with Dick and I going to Sweet Basil on a date. We like it there. It is easy to get to, to get into and the meal is always good. We love the bread and dipping oil too. The service is always perfect and they kind of know us now. Actually, I watched the waitress that we usually have grow up.

I went grocery shopping this morning. Next week, the Pig is having their annual meat sale. I am waiting for the ad and will go over there to stock up on some things, as least as much as I have room for. On the way home, I drove to city hall and paid the first half of the taxes and Chelsea's dog license. So, we have a new piece of jewelry to put on her collar.

This afternoon, the Amputee Support Group had a speaker from DMV come to talk to us. She was very informative and has offered to provide help for several problems that some of the members have. We had a nice group this time. A couple of new people. Two of them I knew, Joe Ziegler, a cousin of mine, and Virginia, a clerk at Walgreens. (Everybody knows me at Walgreens - I am in there at least three times a week.) We had a lively meeting for sure. Lots of questions. I found out that as long as Dick's license is good, he could just drive if he felt able without any new testing. Odd but true. He can, upon expiration exchange it for an ID card, I believe with no cost.

Now, Chelsea is really confused. She keeps asking for something (I think for me to cook our dinner). All I can do is take her outside again. Since we got back from the restaurant, which was an hour and a half ago, she has been out three times. No wonder I am tired all the time.

I have to remember to get the venison roast out to thaw first thing in the morning. I will be making venison and Guinness for the Wild Game dinner. I picked up a bunch of leeks at the store today. I had everything else on hand. Tomorrow, should be a mostly at home day. Good thing.

For your amusement too. I think this is my very favorite pun. A dyslexic man walked into a bra.

Later and as Red Skelton would say "God Bless."

Monday was a day on the run as usual. Bible Study was nice. There were 6 of us there. We are studying Mark. This was the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus for Peter, James and John. In our discussions I learned a couple of things. We all know that Elijah was taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire and is supposed to return before the end of time. I did not know that although Moses' death is recorded, he was also taken up to heaven according to Jewish tradition.

Went from there to Mother's house. She was feeling pretty good. She said that yesterday she felt a bit weaker but that is to be expected. We took care of some bills and I will be taking her to see the eye doctor on Friday.

Home again, we had Spanish rice and chicken with corn and a salad for our lunch. Then I took a nap. Boy did I sleep.

This afternoon, I put my Santas away. I know that Santa is not really plural but I have several. That means that Christmas is really over for the year.

I did another lesson for the online class on herbs that I am taking. It is not a difficult class and I am learning something in each of the lessons. I am glad I signed up for it because it is fun and something I can do from home.

Tomorrow I am going to try to rack some of the wines that are due for racking. I am finally caught up with a lot of things around the house. I am also going to meet with Beth Dippel from the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center about of couple of projects dear to our hearts.

Have a good Tuesday yourself.

God Love you

An I did get to stay home all day.

Chelsea was quite nice too. We only went out about a half a dozen times, which was doubly nice because there was a gentle rain most of the day. The ice is almost gone from above the house entry and the snow banks that the plows made are a good five feet lower than yesterday. One more day of this would probably clear things up.

I did some wash and sent several emails to the CWI for the newsletter and did an assignment for the online Herb class that I am taking. It was altogether a very relaxing day.

We had leftover spinach egg casserole for lunch and I had made Waldorf Salad which we had on a bed of lettuce for our supper.

So it was a very easy day.

We found the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding on TV this evening. For some reason or other, it made me think of a friend of ours form back in California. There was a Greek family who owned a restaurant. Their name was Apostle and they were good friends of my friends the Kirbys. They started to come to the desert on Jeep runs with us. This was when Bret was about 9 to 12, somewhere in there. He used to have permission to take the jeep when were were all in camp and drive it. He would go about 100 yards outside of our campsite, which was in a circle, much like wagon trains of old. He would drive that jeep around the camp if for hours if we didn't go on a run or eat.

One day, I heard this plaintive yell. "Mary, Mary, come here." It was George Apostle. He was sitting in our jeep in the passenger seat and Bret was in the drivers seat looking very grim. George asked me to please tell Bret that it was all right if he rode along with him around the camp. Bret had told him that he was not supposed to talk to strangers.

That reminded me of another friend, Orrin Nordin. When we sat around the campfires at night, we always told stories and often shared songs. Orrin always had to sing a song that he learned as a child called Dicky Dicky Doo. I wonder if my boys still remember it. It was a song about naming the parts of the body starting with the top of the head which was called Rug Mopper which gives you an idea of the song.

God love you

I kind of like the weekends. This was a relatively quiet Saturday. I spent the day cleaning closets and jewelry boxes. I still have the hanging clothes and tops to go through, but figure that I can finish that tomorrow and then drop everything off at St. Vinnies on Monday on my way to Bible Study.

Poor Chelsea got so dirty on her underneath from the grime on the melting snow and on the roadway that I had to give her a bath this morning. She is exhausted still and I am not sure that I am forgiven. I wish we would get the good rain that they promise and it would wash away all that grime.

I went to mass at 4pm as usual. I took the St. Bridget Crosses to show to Fr. Van Beeck and let him choose his. He was delighted. He was not familiar with the St. Bridget Cross though he said he finds Bridget interesting. I told him the legend that says that Bridget was the midwife when Jesus was born. He liked that.

We had bean soup for supper.

Then we got two welcome calls. Michelle called to check in. We had not heard in a few weeks. They have been very busy and she just decided that it was time to catch us up. Everything is going well and they are glad of the warmer weather that they have down there. They are coming for a visit over Easter unless something changes between now and then. Yea! (Pray that some tests that Michelle had come back good. She wants the postcard, not the call.)

Then Bart called. Our poor tired Barb was already sleeping so Bart and I had a nice long talk. They are planning on coming up in June or thereabouts for his high school reunion. I am so excited. As Bret is coming in August, I will get to see all my boys in one year. Richard is the only one in state now and we at least get to see them oftener.

Life is good.

God love you

Friday, January 22, 2010

It was quite a day. I spent the morning cooking and baking. I made the spinach noodle casserole for our noon meal and used the extra eggs for some egg salad. Then there were two bananas that were way to ripe, so I had to bake a cake with them. I made a banana, blueberry, pecan cake and it is really good. Jim would be SO delighted. I think he used to deliberately let bananas get overripe so I'd bake cakes and cupcakes with them.

Roxie and I had the nicest nap this afternoon. I woke up with her curled up on my feet. At least she was in such a position that I did not have to move her to get up.

We had soup and egg salad sandwiches for supper. I just had a little bit because of Donna's surprise birthday party at which I knew that I would snack and have cake.

Nancy Roehre and I went to Rhine to shoot the pistol league. I took my list of the steps that I should go through to shoot that our friend, Jerry Coenen, and did quite will. I got all thirty shots on the three targets. And all but one were scoring.
I am really delighted. I will bring the list with me every week and be very careful about following the steps. Perhaps I will even get good.

Then tonight I drove to Odessey Lanes in Sheboygan Falls for Donna's surprise party. What a nice party. Too loud and too much smoke, but most of the family and lots of friends were there and it is always so good to be with people one loves and likes. Donna was truly surprised and reminded everybody that it is actually a week and a half befoe she is REALLY 50. I took my high school picture with me because I knew Jessica would be there. I had not really looked at it too closely for several years and when I did a couple of months ago, I realized that Jessie looks a lot like me. She liked that and I do too.

So here I am home again and Roxie has finally stopped complaining at me. She does not like it when I am gone. Chelsea is sleeping. She did not wake up when I came in. I suppose I will have to rouse her soon as I want to go to bed.

Got an Email from Leslie with pictures of Nora's wedding. I think I mentioned that she was getting married today. This is so that she and her husband will be shipped out together. Nice pictures. Nora is lovely and they look like a happy couple. I pray for a good life for them and that they treasure each other.

So. Another full day and it was full of happy things. Hope that yours was too.

God love you all

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Hello rather nice Thursday. I am very exhausted tonight but what is new.

Joan came to do the vacuuming etc at 8AM this morning. I finishes several projects this morning. I watered and trimmed the indoor and garage plants, I finished a couple of computer projects and remembered how to and accomplished downloading the new book to a disc so I could take it to Sun Graphics for printing.

We had pot roast for our dinner. It still tastes good and we have enough meat left for a couple of good roast beef sandwiches. I made up a container for Mother too.

After lunch, I went to Mother's with the pot roast. On the way, I stopped at Sun Graphics with the disc of the new book. They will have the proof ready next week and the whole order done by February 1. Then I will able to send a real copy to WFOP for the chapbook contest. The final postmark date is February 1. Nothing like being down to the wire.

I stopped at the Pig in Sheboygan Falls for some milk and Velveeta. I had forg0tten milk on Wednesday and having decided to make the Kunert spinach, egg and cheese noodle casserole, I was low on Velveeta. No way to substitute in that one.

I picked up a pretty springy floral arrangement at Rick's House of Flowers and went to Mom's for a birthday visit. 94 years, quite a life. She looks much better and said that she is also feeling better. Dolores and Ken were also there so we had a really nice visit. She got so many cards, presents and well wishes that I know she feels treasured. Ken, Dolores and I left when the RN from Visiting Nurses came to do her checkup. She, Kathy Mayer, called me this evening and said that she also said that Mother is doing much better.

Got home at about 3PM and just puttered around. We ate a chicken sandwich and green salad for our supper.

I called Bret tonight. He has been on vacation out at his place at the river all week and today a tornado passed through the area. They had wind damage in the park to canopies and small outbuildings so the few people who were out there went around and did damage control. Nothing serious, thank God, but Bret said it was the worst storm he had ever experienced.

I sure am enjoying reading Leslie's blog these days. She doesn't post every day but when she does, we feel closer to her. From the news on her blog, Nora is getting married tomorrow. Wow, that is quick. But I guess if she and her intended are married, they will be deployed together. So, it makes sense. We haven't heard from Nora about it but I am sure that will happen. Sara's wedding is in May.

So that is the day. Tomorrow is Friday already. Where DO the weeks go.

Take care and God love you

Mary

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Wednesday mornings are always busy because I do the grocery shopping. This morning was doubly busy because I had the grocery shopping, and then drove out to Rhine because Jerry Coenen, a friend, had offered to help Nancy Roehre and me sight in our pistols and then give us some advice on our shooting.

So. I left for the store at 8AM. I finished all the shopping and putting the groceries away by 9:15 which gave me about 20 minutes to take the dog out and rest for about 10 minutes.

I left for Rhine at about 9:40AM. Jerry was there and Nancy arrived within a few minutes. Jerry was very patient. As he has been instructing his wife, also a Nancy, I guess he is getting used to working with us gals.

I feel that I learned a lot. I have been shooting for years but have never really had instructions except for the class that I took at Horace Mann several years ago which was more concerned with safety than everything. I learned a couple of simple safety tips from Jerry too.

First, Jerry shot both of our pistols from the bench and unfortunately, we had to conclude that any problems were us. I learned, that I do drop the gun when shooting but for the first time, someone told me a simple way to possibly correct it. I now have a step by step way to approach the line, sight in and shoot. I will be working hard on that. I typed up the steps and will read them before each target that I shoot until I get it right. I think they will help me center if nothing else. The last target was not too bad.

I was home the rest of the day. I had picked up a rotisserie chicken from the Pig and we had that plus cauliflower, salad and fried rice four our lunch. Then I took a much needed rest. Roxie was very pleased with that. She looks forward to our naps each afternoon and I am sure she is disappointed when I am not around or decide to skip it.

Tomorrow is Mother's 94th birthday. I am going down in the afternoon with some flowers and for a little visit. She did seem a bit stronger on Monday. I hope that is continuing.

God love you all

This is a picture of the three Celtic Crosses that I made with my own hands. Mother has one to hang over her door, Fr. Van Beeck will get one and I have a special place for the third.

God love you today and always.

Today I got a LOT done. I sent an e mail to all of my Sheboygan CWI members. I made all the calls and took care of all the "hanging chads" that I had to do to take care of Mother's questions. I got my new chap book of poetry ready to mail to WFOP for the chapbook contest.

I finished preparing our dinner. We had the best pot roast that we have had in ages. I put it in the crock pot at about 1:30AM, when Cheslea got me up to to out. And ungodly hour but it was good for the dinner. I made a cherry tomato/olive salad to go with it.

This afternoon, I took a nap and got a hair cut. So. It was a full day but not physically.

I am closing down for the night but intend to send a picture of the St. Bridget Crosses that I made on Sunday.

Take care and remember to pray for Barbara and Bart as today was the funeral for her father, Dan Burdine.

God love you

Mary

Monday, January 18, 2010

A normal busy Monday. I went to Bible Study at 9:30AM. We had six of us and had a lively discussion on our reading from Mark on the fact that the apostles just didn't always seem to get what Jesus was trying to tell them but we can see, from their point of view, that it was hard. We have all the facts and it is still hard to think of giving up one's life to save it.

Then I went to Mother's. The physical therapist was there, so I glanced at the bills she was concerned with and listened to her therapy. Then Mom and I cleared up a couple of financial things. I took some chicken, noodle casserole and a couple of scones to her. She seems a bit better. Not quite as weak and fragile as she was a week ago.

This afternoon, I went to the Cream City Writers meeting. There were six of us there also. I showed them the book that I am submitting to the WFOP Chapbook contest. Several of the others had things to read and we discussed writing in general. A totally satisfying meeting as far as I am concerned.

Then, when I got home, I took a nap. But I am still tired tonight. I prepared things to pop into the slow cooker for a pot roast for tomorrow's lunch. Chelsea ALWAYS wakes me up by 5AM. And I will dump things in and turn the heat according to when she actually does get me up. A pot roast really does sound good. We have had nothing but chicken for about a week now and I want beef.

Tomorrow will be comparatively quiet. I only have one outing to get my hair cut. So I should be able to get somewhat caught up on paperwork.

Take care and enjoy this Indian Summer.

God love you

Mary

A Holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, 'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.'

The Lord led the holy man to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in.
In the middle of the room was a large round table..
In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew,
which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly.
They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.
But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

The Lord said, 'You have seen Hell. They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one.

There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water.
The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The holy man said, 'I don't understand.

'It is simple,' said the Lord. 'It requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other. The greedy think only of themselves.'

When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you.

What a nice day this was. I spent the morning fixing our noon meal and taking things downstairs for the CWI meeting this afternoon.

We had chicken legs, baked potato, cauliflower and salad for our lunch.

Then I took a short nap so I would be somewhat rested for the meeting. There were only four members besides me here today. It IS winter and some were out of town. Then two people who were coming couldn't for various reasons.

We had a wonderful time. I had done a bit of research on St. Bridget and it was fun ti relay this to the gals. St. Bridget and Brigit the goddess of old Ireland are very intermingled in the stories about them. For example, legend tells us that Brigit, the goddess, was in Bethlehem for Jesus birth and acted as midwife.

Legend also tells us that St. Mel, when he swore St. Bridget in as the abbess of her order accidentally ordained her a bishop. As this could not be rescinded, she is the only known female bishop in the Catholic Church.

We then fixed some tea and snacked on cheese and crackers and scones while we determined how to make St. Bridget Crosses from the directions I had found on the computer. I harvested tall grasses from the front of the house and had Fr. Van Beeck bless them. (They are supposed to be blessed before the crosses are woven.)
I had them soaking in water which is supposed to make them more pliable. I guess it did. We had three different directions and all opted for the same one. Joan Kramer and I started with the third set, which seemed to have the most clear directions. We got through it. They are kind of primitive, but look pretty good. Then everybody tried to do one. So we all had at least one to keep. I made three. The first sample, the one we all did together and then one just using the grasses and not the harder reeds. Pat Becher tried that and it WAS much easier. We are pretty proud of ourselves and are sorry there weren't more there to try it. I do have the directions.

I will take one to Mother tomorrow and one to Fr. Van Beeck on Saturday.

I am drying the rest of the reeds and will take them to Jeff's on the 30th when I go to the Wild Game dinner. As they are blessed it will be best to have them burned and Jeff will do that for me.

So now it it time for bed and I feel very content.

Remember to be praying for Barbara and Bart in the loss of her dad, Don. It is hard to lose a loved one but good to know that her is not hurting anymore. Bless his journey to God.

Saturday, January 16, 2010

It was a good day. I finished the book of poems for the WFWA Chapbook contest. Dick just has to do a final edit, I will show it to the Cream City Writers and then see if it needs some trimming. It has turned out quite well, I think.

The rest of the day, I was just busy with, as Dick says, things that I do and I am, of course, tired. I made some blueberry scones this evening after church.

During the day I cut the grasses that I harvested to 10 to 12 inch lengths so that we can make St Bridget crosses out of them tomorrow during the CWI meeting. It looks like there will be 6 of us. I have gathered together several sources of legend and facts about St. Bridget which I will present first. I took the grasses in a nice big plastic bag and had Fr. Van Beeck bless them as the directions said that one should have the grasses blessed before weaving the crosses. I will have to take one to Fr. Van Beeck next weekend. Tomorrow I will soak them in water which should make them easier to work with. Our meeting is from 2 to 4PM. I will serve tea and scones and Joan Brigham said that she would bring something too. The first meeting of the year. Hope this year goes well.

We do have a big event that we will cosponsor with the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center. Mary Pat Kelly, who wrote Galway Bay, will come the first week in June to give a talk. This could be a really big event if we advertise. The book is FANTASTIC. If any of you want to read it, I have a copy.

I think I have managed to get rid of most of the ice at the front door, but still weill open the garage door and let the ladies come in through the garage. It is just plain safer.

Roxie is spending an awful lot of time in my lap lately. Just plain needy.

Love

Mary

While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform. 'Are you a cop?' she asked, 'Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report. My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?' 'Yes, that's right,' I told her. 'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'

Chelsea was very weird last night. She started pacing in the bedroom at about 11:30PM but she never put her paws up on the bed to tell me that she wanted to go out, then she went out into the living room again. Then - she did not come to get me until around 5AM. The one thing consistent about her is her inconsistency.

I came back with her from her longer morning walk and Barbara had called while we were out. Dick had answered, of course. Barbara's father, Don died early this morning. Thank you all for the prayers. He is no longer in pain. Please continue to pray for the family. Don was a wonderful man and will be missed by his family and friends.

I had lunch at the Dairy Queen with my bank friends. I fixed Dick a chili dog for his lunch and I had a burger and onion rings at the Dairy Queen. Then I went to Mother's to bring her some meds and make a couple of calls for her. I only have one thing that I forgot to do and will take care of that on Monday. She looked a bit better today but is still very tired. I took her some of the chicken soup too. Donna came while I was there, she had done some grocery shopping for Mom. She is feeling much better.

Got a Factbook message and an email from Bobbie. Her cast is off of her wrist. Yea. She is still stiff and feeling a bit stiff but glad to be free of it. She is going to start skating again but will wear wrist guards when she does.

Nancy and I went shooting pistol league tonight. We each shot three targets. My first two were total manure but the last one was much better. We are numbering the first five this time and then will be put into categories where we will be competing against those who are about our league. I guess if I am going to have an awful day it is better during these first five targets but I sill wish I could get more consistent.

That was the day. I will be fixing myself a nice cup of decaf tea pretty soon and will get to bed by 9 with any luck at all.

Have yourself a nice weekend. I will be hosting a St Bridget gathering on Sunday afternoon. I am looking forward to that and attempting to make a Bridget cross.

God Love You

Mary

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Well, today was an at home day but boy was I busy. I got up at 6 on the dot because I needed to finish the tree. I figured that if I got it all down and stowed in its box, Joan, our cleaning lady, would help me carry it downstairs. And she did. So now Dick doesn't have to worry about me trying to get it down to the furnace room alone.

I had several phone calls to make today to doctors and health care workers and veterinarians. And I DID have to go out this afternoon to pick up prescriptions for Mother, Dick and Chelsea. Aside from taking Chelsea for about 8 walks today that was the only time I left the house. It is no wonder that I am tired at the end of the day.

I remembered yesterday that Sunday will be the CWI meeting and we are doing a study of St. Bridget and attempting to make St. Bridget Crosses. I looks like there will be about 7 or 8 of us here so it will be manageable. I cut a bunch of grasses and also have some twisted paper that is suggested in some of the directions so we can all try and see how we do. There are simple directions on the net and I have pulled together information on Bridget both legand and fact to relay to the group. This seemed like a good program as we are planning a trip to Ireland at this time next year to celebrate St. Bridget Day. Did you know that Ireland has three patron saints? They are St. Patrick, St. Columba (Columcille) and St. Bridget.

Tomorrow evening, Nancy and I will start shooting our pistol league at Rhine. She is going to pick me up at about 4:45PM so Dick and I will eat dinner when I get home.

Take care and have a good Friday.

God love you

Mary

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

A fairly successful day. Dick and I went to the new Roadside Inn on Hwy 57 for breakfast on Bret this morning. The people who ran the Plymouth Family Restaurant opened this one. As I said the smoke drove us out of the old one but they have no smoking anywhere in this establishment so we could just enjoy the food. We both got omelets and brought home enough for lunch tomorrow.

Then I did the grocery shopping and picked up a prescription at Walgreens.

I finished the soup this morning and then took a nap after lunch. The rest of the afternoon was spent taking the rest of the ornaments off of the tree and getting them packed away. All that is left is to take one box downstairs and then get the tree stowed in its box and dragged down to the furnace room. I am kind of planning on doing that early tomorrow so that Joan can get the livingroom all vacuumed up. There are little gold stars and bits of tree scattered all over.

Roxie has found the activity of stripping the tree fascinating. She loved all the boxes and activity with just her and me involved. I think she thought that I was playing with her. It made her very hungry. She got very demanding for her dinner starting at 3:30 which was way too early. I finally broke down and fed her at about 4:15 because she wore me down.

Chelsea is becoming a very picky little eater these days. I have to go through all kinds of tricks to get her to eat. I have just about got her eating only the special diet but still she is not eating with much enthusiasm. The confusing part for me is that she is so picky and even special treats are not special to her anymore. She seldom will eat lettuce and the commercial treats that she used to love she sill only eat sometimes. This growing old is sure hard, even for critters.

God love you

Well it was a very quiet day, but I did end up having to leave the neighborhood once anyway. Dick had something scratching in his eye. It reminded him of a similar situation a couple of years ago when an eyelash was sticking into the eye. He was right. An eyelash was sticking in again. Dr. Cheryl pulled it out and gave him some drops for the irritation. She said it is a condition called tricosis, and if it becomes chronic, we will pursue lazering the offending lash out of there. But we will just have to see what happens.

I started a pot of chicken soup with one of the stewing chickens that Bobbie gave us. I got the stock all ready so tomorrow I can add the veggies and spices and chicken and we can have it for supper tomorrow night.

I also started packing the Christmas tree ornaments away. Tomorrow I will tackle that again. Those things plus phone calls and working on some computer work for CWI and my book kept me really busy all day.

Tomorrow, Dick and I are going out for breakfast. We have not done that for over a year. We are going to the Wilderness which is now the Plymouth Family Restaurant, though I don't know which name it is going under. They always had good breakfasts and I understand are now non smoking. We stopped going there because of the smoke. We are going on Bret's "dollar". He didn't know what to get for Dick so sent money for a breakfast on him. What a guy. He has such an imagination.

So the day is done and so am I.

Til tomorrow. Keep yourself well.

Love

The day started off rather quietly. The most activity I had was taking Chelsea in and out of the hours. She was a constant nag again today while I was home. I am so glad that she is finally sleeping and will probably sleep until I wake her up just before I go to bed.

I went to bible study this morning. There were only four of us today. Several had medical appointments and two are in Texas for the winter. But we don't let that stop us. We are in the middle of the Gospel of Mark and enjoying the commentary.
We have an awful lot of people to pray for these days, even in our ranks.

Then I stopped at Mothers. She was sitting with freshly washed and trimmed hair for Denise to come back from the store and finish her permanent. Denise was so embarrassed. She forgot her curlers so had to go and get some. Oh well, she can use them at her shop. Mike Gustafson, Mary Margaret's husband was just leaving when I got there. Mary Margaret had sent some fresh soup for Mother's lunch. I brought food too. I put my soup in the freezer and left the meat loaf and kale out for her supper. It was good seeing Denise and catching up with her and her family. I cannot believe that Samantha is graduating from high school this spring and going to college in the fall. Like Dick said. She is only "this" high.
And her Jack is 11 already.

Denise is another of Mom's special people who do things for her. This saves Mom from going to get her hair taken care of and she was feeling not right as the perm was all gone. She is still very weak and going to the beauty parlor would be not very wise.

When I got home I knew that I had the whole afternoon and all of tomorrow at home. Wednesday, Dick and I are going out for breakfast on Wednesday and then I will go grocery shopping. So it is turning out to be a rather quiet week. As I said, no doctor appointments at all. I hardly no how to act.

Have a nice evening.

Mary

A wonderful quiet day at home. I really took it easy. The only real work I did was making dinner and three loads of wash. We had meatloaf. I decided to surprise Dick with that. He loves meatloaf and it goes well with potato salad.

Feeding Chelsea is becoming quite a puzzle. She is being switched over to G D formula Science Diet which will be better for her kidney. So I have to mix half and half for a couple more days to get her used to the new food. Now she is being very picky in he eating anyway and this morning she did not eat her breakfast. I don't know if it was because she was off her food, she did not like the mixture or she did not like the Aluminum Hydroxide that I mixed in to it. It seemed like a better idea than trying to spoon it down her throat. I think we could get away with that maybe once.

Tonight we mixed it with ice cream and she lapped it all up, so that is what I will try tomorrow. Dr. Pat hopes that this might settle her tummy and also the aluminum hydroxide is good for one of the kidney failings. So we will see.

Then tonight we watched the Packers. What a game. They lost, but what a game. The score was 45/48. Unfortunately the Cardinals got the 48 with a touchdown in overtime. Except for our rotten first quarter we would have whipped them. It was the highest ever scoring game in the playoffs EVER.

My week is quiet, so far and I am going to do my best to keep it that way. It willg ive me a chance to put Christmas away and do it in a leisurely fashion. Hope you have a good week too. Would you believe that we do not have even one medical appointment.

God love you.

Mary
