Except for Mass, I was able to be home all day.   Of course, since I did not have to get up at any specific time, Dick woke up at 6AM so I had to get up anyway.

I finished the wall hanging for the Gathering today.   That was a joy.   I also started stuffing the reception bags for the Gathering.

It was overall quiet.   Dick was confused most of the day.   Not too bad but a bit tiring.   Dustye came from Embrace this afternoon to stay with him while I went to Mass.    She said he was confused for her too.   He tried to insist that he could go to the bathroom normally.    This standlift/commode must be distressing to him.   I wish I could make it better.

So there will be an early night and perhaps tomorrow I will be able to sleep late.

Hi all.

It is quite late for me.    I had an aide here from 6:30 to 8:30PM so I spent that time finishing the wall hanging for the Spring Gathering.   I am very happy with it and will post a picture soon.

The day was, of course, busy with caring for each other and with with the cleaning lady and Dick's health aid.

I wanted to just check in to say that all is well and I hope all is well with you.

I love you all.

Another busy day in this house.   A lot of caregivers in and out.  Roxie hardly bothers to glance at them anymore.

Gretl came at 7:30AM to help Dick get up and fed and all.   I worked on the wall hanging until about 8:30AM.  Then I drove to Advance Eye Care as they had called to tell me that my lenses were ready.   When I got there they found that the lenses sent from the lens distributor were too small, not what was ordered at all.   So I will wait for another phone call in about a week an try again.

Then I stopped at the Sewing Basket to show the people there the wall hangings.    I will be taking pictures, I already have some of St. Bridget, but in person is kind of nice.  Next

I stopped at 52 Stafford and had the nicest visit with a gal named Keri who works there.   Sean had promised me a free night certificate for the drawing or raffle at our Gathering at the end of the month.   Keri got it ready for me and is very interested in CWI.

Finally, I walked across the street to the Exchange Bank for a cappuccino.   As I was waiting, a gentleman asked me how my day was going.   I told him truly that it was wonderful so far and we talked for a bit.   I told him about my wall hanging as I am so excited about it and as you know I gush.   He added my cappuccino to his bill to make my day even better.    A random act of kindness or friendship.   I must remember to be aware of returning that joy to someone else.

Home again.   Dick was up and at his desk.   Pretty alert, but he had not had his breakfast.   I think he waits for me.    Not a good thing.    Gretl ended up giving him his breakfast anyway.    She did some washing and the dishes for me also.

Betty the RN from VNA came a bit after 10AM and took Dick's INR.   His count is still 1.4 so he will have to be tested again next Thursday.   He is still having discomfort in his lung when he breaths deeply.   There are no other symptoms at all.   No fever, no excessive coughing, nothing.   So unless he feels the need, we are kind of waiting to see if perhaps it is related to the procedure he had and will go away.   Dr. Sharon said that if it gets really bad, we should c
all the ambulance and to to ER.

Mary from PT came this morning too.   She determined that here is little more she has to offer us but will come back next week to see if there is any progress and review her information.

So when she left, Dick was a tired boy.   We had a nice lunch and then he went down for a nap.  I rested then too.  Couldn't sleep, so I got up and worked a bit more on the wall hanging.   I just need to edge and label it.   Yea.   That is manageable.   These days go by SO fast.    I can't believe that tomorrow is Friday already.

Until tomorrow

The home care people came at 7AM.   I made sure that they knew about the Foley and everything and then I took off to meet Dorothy Rose at The Wilderness for breakfast.   We were exchanging information and things for the Gathering which is less that a week and a half away.

Life is trying to throw stumbling blocks in my way, but I am doing my best to make them stepping stones.   The Foley was originally supposed to be removed next Tuesday and there then will be three times a day catheterizing.   As I will be responsible for that, and will be gone over the weekend of the 27th, this was a big problem.  But I called Dr. Herman and as it turns out, there no problem with leaving the Foley in for that extra week.  So that will be the case.

I am still trying to figure out how to easily get the stand lift moving to put him to bed after I have my procedure on Monday.   Once it is pointed in the right direction, it is a snap.

After breakfast I did the grocery shopping and picked up a couple of prescriptions at Walgreen's.   I was home before 10AM which is when the aides from Embrace leave so that worked out very well.

We had Catavarti for lunch.   I was able to freeze a whole casserole and we have plenty for the next couple of days.   Good thing as things are picking up around here and meals in reserve will be a blessing.

Mike from Accessability came today and brought the rests for Dick's legs so that we can take the prostheses off and he can rest the stumps.  Mike is going to design an extention for the foot rest so that Dick's feet will stay on it and not dangle.

The rest of the day has been very quiet.   I made several phone calls and email connections and worked on the wall hanging.I will be able to finish all but the edging tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow I can pick up the new lenses for my glasses and since I will be out, I intend to stop at the Sewing Basket to show the wall hanging to them.

Now it is almost 8:30PM and I am going to get ready for bed.  So sleep tight.

A nicely paced day to home.   It was sunny and the wind has finally died down (thought we would blow away last night.) but it was chilly all day.   I have even heard rumors of snow coming on Friday.    Hope they are just rumors.

As I say, the day was well paced.   We had the morning mostly to ourselves.    I did get several phone calls which triggered me having to Make phone calls.  Some communication is still pending for tomorrow.

I spent the morning filling the blessing bags that I am gifting for the CWI Gathering at the end of the month.

At 11AM or so, I got a call from my friend, Kathy.  She was on her way back to Kewaskum and wondered if I was up to a visit.  Of Course I Was.   So we had a cup of tea and I was able to go over the workings of the Celtic Perpetual Calendar that Cindy Matyi and Dolores Whelan designed.  I love having company.

Then Nancy from the VNA came to give him his bath, followed closely by Betty a RN who was re certifying him for an extension of their care.   With the procedure yesterday, it should be no problem.   At least until I can be trained as to the aftercare required from that procedure.

We ate our lunch, beer stew salad and boiled potatoes, then Neil from Steger came to do the spring inspection of the Air Conditioner.   Everything was great there so we are good for another year.

Then the afternoon was quiet.   We had leftovers for dinner.  I had TWO hard boiled eggs left so made four deviled eggs to accompany our supper.   One of Dick's favorite things.

Kay arrived at 6:30PM to be with Dick and put him to bed.   I went out for an hour.   I drove over to 52 Stafford to try to touch base with Shawn O Dwanny.   He was not working but I found out that I should be able to call him at about 5PM tomorrow.   So I had a glass of wine and came home.

Dick was not in bed but just finishing up his last pre bed things.   He is tucked in now.   He had a rather rough afternoon.   We played a couple hands of Rummy but he did not want to finish the game.  It was too hard to concentrate.   Yet - he wants to be DOING something.   So I will continue to try to find things.

Til tomorrow

Boy am I glad that this day is coming to an end.  I got up at 5AM to get my shower.  I woke Dick up then too.   We were able to be ready when Tim from Custom Care came to pick us up for the trip to the hospital.

We checked in at 7AM and Dr. Herman did his procedure shortly after 8:30AM.    All went well.   I am glad that we will be having help for the next couple of weeks as there is a lot to learn.  He should be pretty much healed in a week, then we will get on to the next step.

Neither one of us slept very well last night, so bed will be doubly welcome tonight.

I did get a bit upset by one thing.    I told them when they called with instructions that Dick could not stand to transfer from bed to chair or back.    Three nurses managed to get him to the bed, but they almost dropped him getting him back in the chair.   And he was hooked up to the Foley then.   They had to call for security for more help.    I was not happy and Dick was very uncomfortable and I think a bit scared.   I find it hard to believe that hospitals cannot accommodate disabled patients with safety.

There I have spouted off.

Anyway, he is safely home and we will be fine.   I have lots of help tomorrow so feel pretty good about that.

I am preparing beer stew in the crock pot for dinner tomorrow.

It was SO windy today.   The sound was something else around the house.   It was really pretty watching it out the windows at the end of the living room though.   The lilacs are full of blooms.

Sunday, April 15, 2012

A nice rainy Sunday.   We had quite a lot of thunder during the night.  I kind of like that if it is not "dangerous weather".   It is nice to be safely ensconced in a nice warm home with the rain going on around one.

I did a bit of sewing and now can see that I will be able to finish everything.   Tomorrow while waiting for Dick, I can finish the applique part of the wall hanging.    The final bits are coming together.

Nora called today and she and I had a lovely visit.    She told me not to try to overachieve reading Ulysses.   It takes a lot of time.    I think I'll take her advice and just watch the lectures first, then go back to reading.  She and Leif will be going to China for a trip next month.

At about 6:30PM Kay came to be with Dick for a couple of hours and put him to bed.  I went to see mother and then did a couple of errands on the way home.  Mother is just fine, but as I will not be able to go tomorrow morning, I wanted to get there to pay the bills and for a bit of a visit.

I got home, just as Dick was going to bed.   Kay told me on the side that she is sure that he was waiting for me before going to bed.   But he was all ready.   Until he settles in to this, I will have to be sure to be home a half hour before they leave so that they can do their job.

So soon to bed myself as I will have to be up at 5AM to be sure we get to the hospital on time.

So sleep tight and I will check in tomorrow.
