Chelsea and I took our whole walk this morning. She tried to take a couple of shortcuts but I decided not to let her. We needed the exercise and it was really quite nice at 6AM. It rapedly got warmer and muggier as the day wore on and tonight we had a rolling thunderstorm pass through. It dropped a steady rain for a while, enough that I won't have to water anything today.

It was a very quiet day. Dick is still sleeping a lot. He is up for a couple of hours than lays down for a couple of hours. He has no appetite at all. I am concerned that he is not getting enough to keep his blood sugars stable. Well, it has only been two days since the surgery and I am sure his body is still trying to stabilize.

I drove out to St. Michaels to check the church for tomorrow and everything looks really nice. The altar clothes are on and everything is sparkling. Beth and her set up crew were there to get the tables set up and everything else ready. It is supposed to be beautiful tomorrow. And no rain either.

A couple of imponderables.

What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

This was a Friday on the move. Chelsea and I went for our walk at 6AM. We saw one of our neighbors over on Cattail Court watering her plants. She told me that she had just seen two fawns walking between her house and the next, just strolling. They still had their spots. She tried to get her camera but they moved pretty steady and the door startled them a bit. Now Chelsea and I have something else to deep our eyes open for.

As soon as I got back, I cleaned the kitchen as we had an appointment with Attorney Voss today to begin the revising of our wills. Dick was supposed to go with me. Yesterday he really felt quite well, so we did not foresee a problem. However, today was not so good. He took about five naps and did not feel all that steady, so I went alone. The meeting was successful. I brought home a form that we have to fill out to assist the final draft. He will be revising our Power of Attorney also. It will actually be a much simpler will than before.

I left there and dropped my wedding rings off with Brian to be resized. My knuckles are enlarging and I can't get them off and on without hurting. Got to see Peggy too. She is jealous that I don't have to work anymore. Peggy bought into a Mortgage Banking company so she is an owner now. Good for her.

Stopped at the house on my way back to Plymouth and checked things out. Then on to the Friday lunch at the Dairy Queen.

From there I got some vitamins and pictures at Walgreens, washed the car and got my free stuff at the new Kwik Stop, and stopped at Capelles for corn and tomatoes for supper. Bobbie and Bill came so we needed really fresh corn and tomatoes.

Dick and I then drove to ReMax to sign a couple of papers for the closing. The gals there said that they are still getting calls on the house. That is encouraging. If something does happen(Got forbid) there are others out there.

Bobbie and Bill got her a little before six. We had the corn and tomatoes and cheesecake and a really nice visit. Dick started feeling wobbly so went down for another rest. He has been sleeping every couple of hours FOR a couple of hours. I hope this is good. He just sounds weak and that worries me. Even if I know that her just had his "procedure" two days ago.

Well, that was our day. Busy but not too exciting. I hope yours was good and that you have a beautiful weekend. I certainly intend to what with the St. Michaels Gathering of the Clans and Fr. Mike's Mass. Sure hope it is a successful fundraiser for him and his too. Beth has figured out a way to show the video of Sarnelli that he sent a couple of years go. Rosemary Mugan called and said that all is in order at the church for the mass. I will go out tomorrow afternoon just to satisfy myself and will plan on being there at 10 on Sunday so I can help Mike if he needs it. Jim and Michelle are going to pick Mother up and get her to St. Michaels in time for Mass. I will reserve a seat for her. She is after all, the Queen.

Climb the highest hill
That you can find. Look around
And see forever.

When I got to the hospital at about 7:10Am this morning, Dick was all dressed and peeking out of his hospital room door looking for me. He was about to call too see if I was on my way. I can't blame him. He was anxious to come home. We waited a bit for Dr. Siddique, then the nurse called down to him and he was running behind. e said that if we didn't have any questions, we could just check out. So we did.

He had an awful time last night up until about 12:30AM when they let him lift his head and move a bit. Then at 2:30AM he was allowed up. I don't know if he slept after that or not, but he seemed pretty good when I got there. Anyway, we checked out with lots of instructions. Actually, he can do anything as long as he does not strain the groin area where the incision was made and as long as he doesn't overdo. He has to keep his feet up and rest today and tomorrow won't hurt. He took two good naps during the day, I hope this doesn't ruin his chances for sleeping tonight.

Anyway we are done until September 5 when he will have the second procedure. Don't you just love that term - procedure - sounds much less frightening than operation.

Did I tell you that when they were prepping him yesterday the RN got a call and simply excused herself. The next thing we knew people were running up and down the hall, they were calling Code Blue over the intercom and bringing the crash cart to the room just down from us. It turned out all right the patient is still with us. But it was quite dramatic.

We stopped at Parkview Restaurant in Falls for breakfast and then on home. We were both home the rest of the day. Quite nice. I baked bread and made jam and made a cheesecake for dessert tomorrow night. Bobbie and Bill are coming for a corn and tomato supper with us.

When Bret and Bart were little, Bret's friend Bret Alan's Dad had a pile of dirt beside his driveway for the very longest time. It became a playground for the little boys who lived there and were all about the same age, Bret Francis, Bret Alan and Chip. We came to Wisconsin one winter and Uncle Jeff gave Bret a toy snowmobile. Jeff found it amusing that Bret immediately said "Oh Boy. I can play with this on Bret Alan's dirt pile." There is nothing better for children that a big field or a nice pile of dirt.

However, one time at our jeep club meeting which was in Santa Ana at the Isaac Walton League which fronted a big field, the farmers had a huge pile of fertilizer delivered. Next thing I knew,MY boys were trying to climb the biggest "dirt pile" they had ever experienced. Needless to say I had to go home right away and plunge them into the bathtub.

Have a nice Friday.

It is almost 9PM. I just got home. It has been a very long day and Chelsea and I are alone tonight.

This morning was very quiet. Just cleaning around here and walking Chelsea. At 10:00AM I went to Rhine and shot my last found of trap for the league. Abominably I must say. But I am done. John N. and I decided that we will have subs, beans and salad for the bust up in two weeks.

Got home at 11:30, time enough for ME to eat (Dick was fasting by then) so we could leave for Memorial at about 12:15. We got to the hospital just before 1PM. There is construction on the roads and apparently they are also going to improve the parking at the hospital so right now they have valet parking if one wants to take advantage of it. We did for his check in.

OUR timing was perfect. By the time they got him all checked in and hooked up and catheterised it was 2:30PM. Then word came up that there would be a delay. And boy was there a delay. I finally left to do a couple of errands at about 3:45 and they took him to surgery sometime between 4 and 4:30PM.

I returned at 5:15, checked at the desk and then went to the cafeteria to eat supper. Poor Dick finally appeared close to 7PM. The nurses got him all settled in and checked out and Dr. Siddique came in to talk to us (Mainly me as he had apprised Dick of what he had done right away) He is pleased with the results so far and the nurses say there is a definite improvement in the pulse in his feet. He did tell us that the veins need tons of work too and that his callouses will not heal until they are taken care of.

Anyway. He was hungry. Beth, the head nurse, brought him a sandwich supper which he ate very enthusiastically. I had bought him a chocolate chip cookie in the cafeteria too.

Finally at about 8:15PM it seemed practical to give him a sleeping pill and for me to leave. I want to be back tomorrow by 7AM so that I will be there when Dr. Siddique comes so we can get him home as soon as possible.

So now you all know that he is as well as can be expected, though we all know that he needs plenty of sympathy from us all. He is a brave little soldier. I will be happy when he is home safe and sound.

Got the following from a friend.

HOW TO CLEAN THE HOUSE

We did our shopping today because we just felt that tomorrow will be busy enough what with my shooting and THEN the whole afternoon and evening for Dick's artery revamp. That seems like a good term. Perhaps, rewiring is better.

Anyway, I got to sleep until almost 6:30AM. It was raining when Chelsea and I went out and sprinkled and/or rained most of the morning. We went to Mc Donald's for breakfast, then to the bank and then to the Pig. Since he had to have a blood test for tomorrow's procedure we just went to the clinic on our way back home. No one else was there so it went very fast and we were home by 9:30AM.

I spent the rest of the day printing things, painting things and sorting things. Chelsea seems a little mopey today. I am beginning to wonder if the stormy weather makes her little bones ache like mine do.

Dolores called this evening to let me know that Jody had their baby yesterday. Shawn is a fine young man who came into this world at 9 lb 12 oz and is 21 inches long. Dolores says he even has a wee bit of a double chin. Such a relief that it is over with. Brandon and Evan are very proud of their little brother.

This morning when I was taking my shower for some reason the memory of Uncle Art popped into my mind. He was my ex's uncle and a truly unique individual. He was an alcoholic. There was no question of that. He was also one of the nicest men in the world. A mainly happy soul. For a while he lived with a women. She was really pretty bad. George called her Mary Gore the old Whore. Which gives you some idea. She riled Art so bad one day that he slammed his hand through a door. She called the cops on him. Then when they got there she gave them such a batch of mouth that they took her off and left Art at home.

Anyway, shortly before Art died, he got quite sick and ended up in the hospital. For some time he was the talk of the hospital because they thought he was having the DTs from being cut off from the booze. But soon they realized that he was having reactions to the various meds they were giving him. I asked Jacquie if I should go to see him, if he was up to company. She told me not to bother. In his poor befuddled mind everybody he knew was there to see him, either in the room or out in the hall talking. He later described one of his illusions. There was a huge snake in the room. Apparently it was not a frightening thing. It came from behind his bed, up the wall, over and across the ceiling where it hung its head down and was smiling at him. He did get to leave the hospital for a while, but never really recovered , bless his soul. I am sure God had a special place for that sweet man.

Have a nice Wednesday and remember to pray for Dick. The nurse said that they will keep him overnight but I will be home late evening and will update you.

Tonight was the membership meeting of Rhine Plymouth. Bobbie said that she didn't know that Dick was having his surgery on Wednesday. I thought I told you all, but perhaps just mentioned that it was going to be done and not when.

This will be the first of two, possibly three procedures. The second will be September 5th and the last, if needed will be on October 2. He has to be at Sheboygan Memorial at 1:00PM for preparation for the 2:30PM surgery. They say the procedure takes two hours so he should be out by 4:30, then he has to lay flat for 8 hours. So, the nurse said that they will have him stay the night this time. I will take him and stay til he is registered, then go out and do several errands as long as I am in Sheboygan. I have my cell phone, so they will be able to reach me. I figure on being back by 4PM and staying with him until 8PM or so when I will go home to sleep and come back to get him as early as they will let me.

The Rhine Meeting was rather uneventful. No major issues. So I was home just at 8PM.

This morning we had a very enthusiastic bible study. The readings are still involving the unimportance of building up wealth. We really liked St. Paul's definition of faith in the Letter to Hebrews Chapter 11:1 - "Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and the evidence of things not seen." Helen Maurer mentioned that she ran into a friend who had taken care of her elderly mother for three months before putting her in a nursing home. The friend spoke of it as being just hell. That kind of upset Helen who patted her on the arm and mentioned that we are all headed for that eventuality, which really made the woman throw up her hands. It is hard to grow old, but we need to realize what the elderly have to offer in wisdom, patience and knowledge.

Speaking of the elderly, (Mom would love this) I stopped off and visited with Mom as usual. We had a great visit. She is so looking forward to the St. Michaels mass and picnic. We are still waiting for word that Jody has had that baby. Here we worried because he tried to be born WAY too EARLY and now that it is OK , he is dawdling. I guess he is a pretty big guy too. So good to be having babies coming. Becky is due in October.

The closing has been postponed. Ick. Sue from ReMax got a call from the buyers agent stating that the buyer's buyers would be signing in the morning and that they would then buy our house in the afternoon. As Chuck, the buyer's agent is on vacation until Saturday, Sue said that she was surprised that he wouldn't be at the closing and he said "Oh it has been put off until 8/17." Wonder when they were going to tell us. I had told Chuck I would give him a big hug and kiss for bringing the buyer. He may lose now. From what Gene Hickey said, I think it has something to do with the financing for the buyer's buyer. Oh Well, at least it is still on.

Guess that is all. Tomorrow is rather light. We are going to shop and get Dick's blood test then can stay home the rest of the day. Chelsea will like that. She is looking at me hopefully now. At this time of night, she likes someone to go to bed with her.

Have a nice Tuesday yourself.

Waylon - or as he was known in our household.

The Little Prince.
Posted by Picasa
We are listening to Andre Reiu tonight. He is Mother's favorite orchestra conductor and violinist. So we figure that we better watch so we don't look bad to Mom.

He is really good actually, I recommend any of his shows to you.

Chelsea and I had a rather short walk this morning. It was kind of raining. I did not get wet at all, but could see drops falling into puddles that were alongside the road. I did not argue with her when she pulled me towards the shortcuts. It seemed reasonable as we never know if the sky will open up on days. 30% isn't much but if it is right over us, could be a problem. She even cut through the part of the wood where the trilliums bloom in the spring. I always have to carry her over the bridge that leads to the park there because she has learned that her little paws can get stuck between the slats. But it was a nice walk.

Mass was interesting, a carry over from bible study. We have to realize that as we work to provide for our retirement (which we certainly should do) how much do we need? What good does it do to work our tails to the bone and then go to heaven and leave it all behind? Are we earning for the power of earning or for our security? Do we have a "401K" or "Roth IRA" in heaven for THAT future. HMMMM!!! must think about that.

I worked at Rhine today. Harold had traded with me and I filled his place today. We expected it to be really dead, but kept a steady stream at the traps. Three of them me. I got two 14s. (Better than 12) and then shot a round with the gun the Tom is trying to sell me. Josh, our teenage member, came with me when I shot those rounds in order to advise me. What a nice young man he is. I learned a lot from him and will have to utilize the advice. I seem to shoot high, at least with Tom's gun. However, the gun has little or no recoil because it is gas powered. I still don't quite understand that but the guys tell me it is a good thing.

I just realized that as I mentioned my frustration with trying to get an 8/10 printed of our Waylon cat, some of you might not know what he looked like. (Most of you do of course) The picture I want was taken as he lay in a chair we had in the living room and he is looking at the camera as if to say "Is this really necessary. Have you forgotten who I am?" He was a wonder. So I will send it today. It is a great shot and worth sharing.

Love.
