Today was a great day. I only had to go out twice. The first was to pick up prescriptions and corn. I did that before lunch. Then we ate the Mexican Turkey casserole for lunch and I took a nap. I didn't really get to sleep, but I did rest for about an hour.

I did a lot of preparation for the CWI telephone conference which will be Monday at 4PM, I cleaned Dick's bathroom and made a cherry tomato salad.

Then as I was getting ready to load my magazines for next week's pistol league and clean my pistol this afternoon, the phone rang. The caller ID just showed O and I almost did not answer but something told me that I should. It was BARBARA calling me from GERMANY. I was so very happy to hear her voice. She is a tired little lady. She is working hard all week and then traveling on the weekends. This weekend she and her friend went to the Kaiser Factory and to a Basket Market which apparently occurs just once a year and brings in craftspeople from all over the place. Bart is supposed to join her for three weeks in mid October.

Suzi, Dick's niece, called today too so it was a red letter day. Suzi is doing well and was just verifying addresses for the mini Kunert reunion that will be happening on October 24. We can't go but will be there in spirit. I am committed to go to the memorial for my friend Stevan Naffin on that day. I promised Bob I would join the choir for the service and will help write the tribute.

Mass was at 4PM. I saw several friends after and before. Maryanne Robinson and me had fun helping each other across the torn up road. She had cataract surgery recently and her perception is really goofy and I was limping. Maryanne and I graduated from St. Mary's Grade school in Sheboygan Falls together. Then I went to the convent, her family moved to Plymouth and when I came back from the convent, she was not there. We hooked up again at high school reunions. My Class of 58 invites EVERYBODY that ever attended school with us, so Maryanne comes when she can too. Now we belong to the same parish again.

We just had soup for supper tonight. I had my leftover clam chowder from yesterday and Dick had some leftover bean with bacon.

Bobbie sent us an article that states that Vitamin D is a good supplement to be taking to help prevent flu. A lot of Vitamin D that we receive comes from the sun and I was remembering that my boys always got their colds and flues during the dark months of January through March, even in California. When they were little we would pretend that the "Ds" were coming to get them and I would chase them around and cuddle and poke them to represent the "Ds". They always were healthier when they could get outside and play in the fresh air and sunshine.

Tomorrow I don't have to go ANYWHERE.

Thank heavens.

Have a great Sunday.

Here is the fairy stone. Now if I ever move, I have to take a big rock that reminds me of a rabbit and a fairy stone.

Getting pretty heavy.

Chelsea slept until 5:30AM this morning. I was amazed. I was SO tired from the events of yesterday that this was quite a pleasant surprise. It was close enough to 6AM so I took her out and then fed both her and Roxie and went back to bed. Dick woke me up at 7. This is the latest that I have slept in years. I would have liked more.

I really did take it easy today. The only cleaning I did was our bathroom. We got Dick all cleaned up and ready for a doctor appointment at 11:30AM. That went quite well, we hope. At least there are suggestions for solving the questions we wanted answers too. We left there and went to the Wilderness for lunch. It went quite well. Dick finally got the perch dinner he has been wanting.

When we got home I took a nap. When I woke up almost two hours later much of the aches were gone from my knee and hip and I felt much more rested.

Tonight was my night to work at Rhine so I left here at about quarter to 5 to start my shift. I forgot my sandwich. So I ate a candy bar and just finished my sandwich now with a glass of milk. We have only 11 teams signed up for trap so far. Lots of people are paring back on shooting with the economy as it is. We have a pretty good list of pistol shooters though. Nancy Coenen and Pat Becher have joined Nancy Roehre and me in the sport so we have some competition. Lil came down the first week, but with the rules posted, she realized that she has been shooting with a laser which is not allowed in league. Other rules are that you have to shoot one handed and cannot use scopes.

I came home to two messages on the phone so Dick must have gone to bed almost immediately. One was just a message from Walgreens. The other, however, was our Michelle. We will have to give them a call tomorrow morning. They are up to their volunteering again and will be volunteering at the Oklahoma State Fair tomorrow and Sunday. I figure we can catch them at home in the morning.

On the garage side of the house there is are field stones that lead to the grassy area. They are not set permanently but do form a path along the side of the garage. One of them has developed a golden shamrock shape on it. I think the fairies are busy around her. I took a picture and will send it to you.

Have a lovely weekend.

Whew - what a day. Chelsea, for the second night in a row, did not wake me up until about 5AM. However, Miss Roxie has gotten used to me being up between two and three and she came in sometime in the wee hours to protest the service she is getting. When I am up between two and three she can count on a little snack.

The housecleaning service started today. Joan came at 9:30AM on the dot and vacuumed the whole house and cleaned all the floors. I was busy getting things ready for this evenings CWI gathering. It worked out quite well. They have a two hour minimum and it takes about two hours to do the floors of the whole house.

Bobbie got here at noon and we had Mexican Turkey Casserole for lunch. Then Bobbie and I went downstairs and worked. We bottled the White Zinfandel and racked her Grapevine and bay leaf. Then we took a count of bottles so we know how many more we need for the wines that are now in the works.

I had made a deep dish apple pie yesterday so after we worked so hard we came up and enjoyed a nice slice of that with vanilla ice cream. Those were sure good apples that Kathy and Jeff gave us. Talked to Jeff today. He said that they now think they know what kind of apples they are and he will get back to me. I just know that they were good and the combination was truly scrumptious. (Remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.)

Then at 6:30PM, nine of the Sheboygan County Celtic Women arrived here. We gathered in the den for a music lesson. Kind of. I had taken that a Celtic Music correspondence class through the UW Madison in Celtic Music several years ago. I reviewed the Celtic Nations with them, then discussed Traditional Vs. Irish American Celtic music, then compared a reel to a jig. I finished by playing a jig from each of 6 Celtic Nations so that they could hear the similarities and the differences. I did not have a jig from Brittany so just played a song from Brittany. I enjoyed the research and they seemed to enjoy the presentation. We finished by putting Navan on in the background and having tea and sweets while we visited. Navan is a wonderful a capella group from Madison who sing in the native Irish, Gaelic and Cornish. Great background music. Towards the end I brought Roxie down because I had mentioned that she was a Manx cat. My friend Rosalie loves animals and wanted to see her. Roxie was kind of insulted as it was not her idea but she was civil.

So it was a successful evening, well received and we decided a lot of our menu for the October Samhain celebration. I will send out more information by Monday. We need something for November. Dorothy Rose said she may be able to get a dancer to come and explain the costumes and dance for us.

That's all now. Tomorrow will be a bit quieter though I have to take Dick to the doctor at 11:30 and work at Rhine in the evening. I intend to nap in the afternoon and just clean up downstairs in the morning.

Hope your day was as much fun as mine.

Love

Grocery shopping today. I got somewhat of a late start because we took longer to do the "stuff that I do" each day. But I was home by 10:30AM. I saw Jena from the Cream City Writers Club which reminded me that I need to get organized for next Monday's meeting. It will be kind of empty without Sy there. I think I told you about Sy. He helped start the Cream City Writers several years ago. Sy is a deacon in the Catholic church and served in Sheboygan and most recently in Sheboygan Falls. Sy has known my family FOREVER. My Dad was his scout master before Dad and Mother married. He is still active in Boy Scouts and acts as the chaplain. My grandfather, Michael J. Deeley was his confirmation sponsor. So our family have dies from way back. Sy is getting pretty old and unfortunately his eye sight has failed to a point that he can no longer drive. He is working on ways to continue his writing and wood carving but does not want Nora, his wife, to have to feel that she has to drive him everywhere. Saw him at the Celtic Faire and he had a nice visit with Mother and my brother Jeff.

I tried to nap this afternoon, but it was impossible. I was too busy in my mind.

I made some Lavender Tea Bread this afternoon. I want to serve it tomorrow evening at my CWI meeting. I also took care of all of the apples that Jeff and Kathy gave me on Sunday. I made a deep dish apple pie and applesauce. I probably should have done one or the other but once I get started, it is hard to stop.

While I was peeling apples the door bell rang. It was the man of the family that purchased our home at Hunters Glen three years ago. He had a package for me. Mary Schultze had sent the Galacian CD that she purchased for me on her trip to our old address. He works here in Plymouth and kindly brought it by the house for me. He also brought St. Joseph. I had buried St. Joseph in the front planter while we were trying to sell the house and had written asking if they would let me know if they found it. I couldn't before we left because there were beautiful plants growing and I would have destroyed the roots. Wasn't that the most considerate thing? I put him immediately up on the mantle where he belongs. Perhaps now, blessings will flow like water into this house.

Tomorrow will also be a very busy day so I need to be in bed on time to get my rest.

This afternoon, I was thinking of a very sweet old couple that I knew in the previous life that I lived in California. I have mentioned that we belonged to a jeep club. There was an older couple, Cap and Helen Randall, who were members of the Orange County Four Wheelers and very active in the Southern California Jeep Association. They had been jeeping forever. When the Ford Mustang came out, dear little Old Helen said that if they would put four wheel drive in it she might consider buying it. It was a cute car. Why do they change the design and call it the same thing?

Take care

Dick has beautiful teeth. He had a dental appointment for cleaning and his technician told him several times how beautiful his teeth are. He is gloating.

After we did that and picked up a couple of prescriptions the morning was pretty well shot. I fixed chicken for lunch. A fter a short rest, I had an appointment for a hair cut.

The rest of the day was just filled in with,as Dick says, "things that I do." Wash, cooking, cleaning and taking care of critters two and four legged.

A quiet evening. Thank heavens. I was remembering something today. We were watching a show that mentioned a stretch limo. Shortly after Bart and I moved here it was time for Bret's graduation from high school. Bart and I went out to California for the event. When it was time to come home there was a problem with the flight that we were supposed to take back. The airline got us on a flight that took us to Chicago, but our ride home was waiting in Milwaukee. They worked this out by saying that they would have a car rental waiting for me to drive to Milwaukee.

Don't trust the airlines if they promise stuff. I got to the car rental place after we landed in O Hare and there was no car available. So I went to the airline counter and asked them what they were going to do with a woman and a child in the middle of Chicago at something like 10PM in the evening. They hired a limo - yes a limo, not the limo service vans but a limo - to drive Bart and I to Mitchell where our friends Kerry and Darlene were waiting with my car. Bart was beside himself and was suddenly no longer tired. I slept all the way to Mitchell and he just enjoyed being a celebrity. He was 12 and this was a real adventure.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping day and we are going to take Dick on an outing again.

Love you all

Mary

A comparatively quiet day after yesterday.

I did have bible study this morning. We had a good group there today and had a lot to discuss. We got onto the subject of why Jesus would work a miracle or run into a demon and instruct them not to tell anybody. Was he shy or trying not to get mobbed? Usually the person or thing told anyway, which is probably why he ended up having to feed thousands on occasion with only a few loaves and fishes. One can understand why he was popular. We decided that he probably wanted people to follow him for his message not the miracles.

Then I went over to Mother's. She was tired from the long day yesterday, but we both agreed that it was indeed a wonderful day and Celtic Faire. I brought her some of our Jello salad. Didn't have anything else. She was going to play cards with her friends this afternoon. This is the quiet group but they do go on. Helen was picking her up at 1 and she probably didn't get home til at least 5. But tomorrow and Wednesday she can get caught up on resting. She had better because Jeff takes her to see Dr. Hancock on Thursday for her physical.

I fixed good old Kraft Italian spaghetti for our lunch. It was a request from Dick. He does love his pasta and had asked for that particular spaghetti.

I took a short nap, then watered the tomatoes and pots on the front porch and started getting ready for bottling wine on Thursday. Bobbie and I are going to bottle the White Zin. We need to rack at least one of her smaller batches too.

Tonight I went to the Rhine Plymouth meeting. I reserved the club house for the October 17 CWI Samhain meeting. We want a little more space for a pot luck meal and some fun. The meeting was pretty standard except there is a disagreement as to how we want to improve the rifle range. I wish everybody would pay attention and not get all grouchy and loud. I think it is a guy thing.

Tomorrow I want to work on apples. Jeff and Kathy gave me a bag of them. They said they taste good but are not perfect so it would be good to make something cooked out of them. I am thinking apple crisp and maybe apple sauce.

The Packers won last night and I could not sleep until the game was over so I am really tired and am now ready to go to bed. I think Chelsea is ready for me to go to bed too. At this time of night she likes things to just settle down and be quiet.

Til tomorrow.

A lot going on around here. I had to get out of the house by 8AM this morning. We were starting our choir warm up at 8:30 and I needed to pickup some meds for Mom from Walgreens.

We had a neat practice going over all of the music that we were singing at the Celtic Mass. The prelude went very well. The first song being my adaptation of the words from a hymn quoted by St. Paul in Phillipians. I figured it would be nice to be able to sing that old hymn so I revamped the words to the tune of The Water is Wide. It turned out quite well.

We also sang my Song of Lament which we have sung before. This time we put the words into the worship folder and I was delighted to have several people tell me that they were moved by the words that I wrote. This is always a delight. I am so pleased when people get what I am trying to say. Here are the words. It is sung to an old Irish tune called For Ireland I Won't Say Her Name.

SONG OF LAMENT

Maker, Father, Creator of life
When we follow the road you have shown
It will lead to the end of all strife
Where we’ll dwell in your glory as home
Jesus, Brother, the Message of love,
You walked with us and died as we must.
Lead us safely to heaven above
And be ever the one we can trust

CHORUS

I'm the kiss of the breeze on your cheek
I 'm the choir of avian songs
You can find me in flowering fields
And the gentle soft fingers of dawn

Spirit, teacher, who makes all so clear
Imbue in us love, faith and peace
Be our courage in conflict and fear
Be our wisdom in this troubled place.
Blessed Trinity- three yet one God
Leaves of shamrock remind us of you
Circle us with the shield of your love
And send us out to witness for you

CHORUS

If you trust in me I'll walk with you
This I promised since life first began
Three yet one we've provided for you
And carved you in the palm of our hand.
See the heavens a beautiful blue
Change to ebony sprinkled with light
In the darkness do not be afraid
For I watch over you with my might.

CHORUS

Had a wonderful time at the Celtic Faire too. I sang Isle of Insisfree with the band. That was fun. Talked to a lot of people that I had not seen in a long time. Several of the Celtic Women were there. They are all going to be at my music presentation on Thursday night. I am gong to provide tea and show them how to drink it the way I learned in Ireland. I have most of my presentation ready with plenty of time to firm it up before Thursday. If any of you want to come, I think it will be fun. We are gathering between 6:30 and 7PM at my house.

Now I am watching the Packers playing the Bears. A long time rivalry. So far they are tied. I NEED the Packers to win to have any chance for a win this week in my Football league.

Jeff and Kathy came to Celtic Mass along with Shane and Sara. Sara commented that 64 years ago, Mother was VERY pregnant with Jeff. He was born on September 14. She recalled that when he was born he weighed just 5 pounds and had lost a bit after his birth. They wanted to keep him but DID let her and Dad bring him home anyway. We were remembering also that Jeff was little for years. He did not do a whole lot of growing until his junior year in high school. He was always the smallest in his class until then. He grew even after he went into the service.

Jessie and Becky were at Mom's too. Becky, of course, had Elizabeth with her. Elizabeth is a joy of a toddler. Cute and very charming.

So it has been a great day. I am wearing out and hope that I see the end of this football game. I will have to go to bed at about the half but we will have it on in the bedroom.

Have a good week. The weather is supposed to be with us still.

Love

Mary
