I was expecting much more rain than we got today.  The deck was a bit wet when I woke up and 8AM.   What a good sleep that was.   So I weeded the pots on the deck before I got too involved in too many other things.

I baked some pear bread today.    As I was mixing it, I looked at the clock and realized that it was 9:45 and I was supposed to have picked up SHARE at 9AM.   I went right over there and got there before they closed up.   I had a call waiting when I got home.  But the guy who runs it told me it would be waiting.   This month the package contained chicken, cooked beef patties, tilapia, polish sausage and pears, oranges, lettuce, oranges and carrots.    A nice assortment.

I did get the pear bread baked and made it to Rocky Knoll in time to have lunch with Dick.    We had a nice afternoon.  He even felt up to playing a game of cards.   That is something that he has not wanted to do for quite a while.   He whipped me again.

I got home in time to clean out one more quarter of the garage and I have two boxes ready to drop off at Goodwill on Monday.

So a nice day.   I intend to goof off and do nothing to do with work or anything the rest of the evening.

I love you all

God loves you too.

Started out the morning solving several problems.   A lost package and a misapplied payment.  All done after annoying long waits on the phone waiting  for "real people."   No wonder my Mom hates to make her own business calls.    Not only do you have to weed your way through many questions, you also have to input account numbers and anything else they decide to ask on a whim.   She does not hear that well either.

Jody cleaned today.   She said she could see that we baked a lot of scones as there was glaze all over the kitchen floor around the edge of the cupboards.

I went to the grocery store because Dick wanted pretzels and I wanted summer sausage.   I don't usually shop between Wednesdays, but with both of us wanting something special it made sense.

I got to Rocky Knoll at about 11:45AM.   A little later than usual but still in time to have lunch with Dick.   I really wanted to be there as the other Ernie will be going home tomorrow.    We will miss him as he is so interesting and such a gentleman.    One of the other residents who has been at the other end of the room, usually stuck with a bunch of women joined us today.   Tomorrow, only Dick and the gentleman who joined us today will be at his table.    There are some new residents so maybe he will get some new table companions.

Dick started coughing during PT and really had a rough time.   After that he started feeling that pain in his chest again.    They took his temperature and it is up again also.  They are watching him closely and he is doing breathing treatments with a nebulizer which we hope will break up the congestion.   If he can just hang on until Wednesday, he will see the pulmonary specialist.

Next week is very busy for him.   He has to keep practicing walking.   Tim from Wisconsin Prosthesis will be there at 8:30AM on Tuesday to do some more adjustments.   Then we are having an evaluation meeting with the nurses and therapists and all involved to see how we will be ending this whole ordeal.

Wednesday Dick will see Dr. Kream, the pulmonary specialist at 9:30AM.  He is going to be worked to the bone so you can see that this is not time for the pneumonia to rear its ugly head again.   Especially when he has been making such great strides overall.

I went shooting Nancy and Warren, her boyfriend who happens also to be my cousin.    Nancy and I shot first then I went upstairs while Warren tried his brand new Browning Buckmark.    The club has beer from the Beer Tasting event left again, so I bought an assorted six pack for a present for Dick when he comes home from Rocky Knoll.

It is getting dark so much earlier and staying dark so much later.   Winter is definitely trying to find its way back.

God love you.

Doc sent this to me today.   As some hunting seasons are open already, I thought my hunter friends and maybe some non hunter friends and relatives might find it amusing.

Four guys have been going to the same deer camp for many years. Two days before the group is to  leave, Ron's wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going. Ron's friends are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do?

Two days later the remaining three get to the camping site only to find Ron sitting there with a tent set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire.

"Damn man, how long you been here, and how did you talk your wife into letting you go?"

"Well, I've been here since yesterday. The evening before I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, 'Guess who?'"

I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing a brand new nightie. She took my hand and pulled me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie and cuff her to the bed, and I did.

And then she said,  "Do whatever you want."

"So, here I  am."

Today was a lovely kind of Fall day.   We still have not had a freeze but the air was cool and crisp.   It rained a bit before morning but we ended up with sun after the clouds scattered.

I worked around the house until close to 10, then headed over to Rocky Knoll so that I would be there to go with Dick to his dentist appointment.    Tim from Comfort Care and Transport was there at 10:30 to take him over to Joseph and Joseph.    They got us in on time and Janelle was able to clean his teeth without moving him from his motorized chair.  Next time, he should be able to walk as he will be an expert on those prostheses.

We got back to Rocky Knoll just in time for lunch.  I just bought their lunch today.   Meatballs, sweet potato fries and strawberry schaum torte.  He had therapy this afternoon too.   He was very tired but he managed to get through both sessions.    As you can see from the previous post, he walked and posed for those pictures.   Doesn't he look great?

I came home at about 3 and have been washing and folding clothes and sorting all of his CPap equipment.   He had so many odd pieces that I am weeding out for him.   Then as I was finishing supper,  my friend Mary Steger called and asked if I would like to go out for a cup of coffee with her.   She had said that she would do that one day.   What a nice idea that was,   just an hour of gabbing at the Dairy Queen.   I see her most Sundays at the Mass at Rocky Knoll.

So home again,I called Dick to let him know that I was back in the house with everything locked up.   He is still watching out for me, you know.    I am a lucky lady.

God love you

Mary

Home again after a very full day.   I left the house a bit early, 7:30AM for shopping, because 1.   I needed to be back before 9AM so that I could get my bread baked and 2.   I had decided to go to Mc Donald's for a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit for my breakfast.

Shopping went well.    I didn't need much but stocked up on diet coke and toilet paper which was on sale.  I did arrive home before 9 and started baking my bread.   It is the No Knead Bread and I am now making one with wheat flour too.    I love it because it is so chewy and crusty.  Someday when I can be home all day, I want to make a Guinness yeast bread that sounds SO good.  But I need to be here all day for that.

I went over to Rocky Knoll at 11AM so that I could be there for both of Dick's therapies again.   We tried a standing lift this morning to see if it would help speed his getting into the bathroom instead of having to use the bedpan.   It was not too successful, but we will try something else tomorrow.   He did walk twice during his afternoon PT and is looking very good.   He can even take one hand off of the bars to point to any uncomfortable areas and stay comfortably on his feet.   We were impressed.  Tomorrow I will take pictures and post them for all to see.

This evening I went to Mead for Karl Elder's Poetry Circle.  I picked up Kate and Sy.   Sy is so happy that I can do that because he had not been able to drive for quite some time and Nora cannot drive comfortably at night.   Karl has these meetings once a month during the "school year."    It was a bit of a smaller group,  Karl said that several of the regulars had emailed that they were unable to come but would be there next month.   There were about 8 of us.    I read a couple of my poems.   They were well received.

So - I am home.   A bit later than I remembered but before 9PM.   I called Dick as soon as I stepped in the door as I knew he would be worried.    I could assure him that I was safely here and that all the doors are secured.

I mentioned the pneumonia to Sy and he said that Dick should be smoking a better brand of cigar.

So with that I will leave you and go to my rest

God love you

A much quieter day than yesterday.    I was in bed until 7AM.   Then I really had to get up because Tuesday is trash day and I had to get up in time to finish getting it ready.

I cleaned out the closet next to the dining area.  My next big project will be the basement storage room.  Then I went to Rocky Knoll to be with Dick.   I was there for both of his therapies and for lunch.    He walked twice during his PT in the morning and stood up one extra time.  This afternoon, he stood for a static stand along side the parallel bars just to get used to standing.

So.  I really don't have anything more to say today.   It is kind of cloudy and breezy outside,  so I opened the doors.    I must remember to lock things up when it gets dark as Dick worries about that.

God love you

Mary

I received this from my friend Doc today.

Last year after the Packers / Bills game, Buffalo released quarterback Trent Edwards.

During the Packers/Eagles game, the Packers injured Philadelphia quarterback Kevin Kolb. Philadelphia then had to play backup quarterback Michael Vick.

During a playoff game against the Eagles, the Packers injured Michael Vick and another backup was needed.

After the Packers/Cowboys game, Dallas fired Wade Phillips and most of his staff.

After the Packers/Vikings game, Minnesota fired Brad Childress and most of his staff.

Four weeks after losing to the Packers, the 49er's coach Mike Singletary and most of his staff were fired and replaced.

During the Bears Playoff game, the Packers injured Jay Cutler and backup Todd Collins forcing the Bears to go with 3rd string quarterback Caleb Hanie.

Question:
Is it just me, or did the Packers create more jobs than Obama last year?

Monday Monday

I started off by sleeping til 7AM after Roxie rudely woke me up to feed her at 6AM.  Then I had a light breakfast and went to Bible Study via the bank as I had a check to cash.

There were  seven of us at Bible Study this week.    Last week I had mentioned that I was having a scone baking day at the house on Saturday and they "suggested" that perhaps I would LOVE to share scones with them, so I did.   I brought some of the Raspberry white chocolate scones for them to sample.  We discussed Psalm 34 this week.   It is an acrostic, though of course the translation from Hebrew does not show this.   An acrostic is a poem, as an example, using the first letters of the word LOVE for a 4 line poem.   This was a poem based on the Hebrew alphabet.   It is a beautiful Psalm and generated a lot of discussion.

We got a gift today from Sy Regan.   He gave us his study bible for a reference book.   He cannot read it any more.   Poor Man but he is very cheerful.    I will be taking him to the Poet's Corner at Mead on Wednesday night.

Next, went to Mother's.   She looks really well and pretty with her fresh perm.   We had a great visit and took care of her financial business.   She is so excited that Dick was able to walk last Friday.

Then home where I ate lunch and petted Roxie for a bit then went to writer's club.    I had a couple of poems to read and the other members had stories and poems also.   One of my poems was a 9-11 thing, a cinquan:

Today
We lived again
The tumbling of the towers
As we watched in growing horror.
Ten years!

I next went to Rocky Knoll.   Dick was just coming out of therapy.   He walked twice and further each time than on Friday.   Yea Dick.

We visited until supper time.  I ate with him and "the guys". Fred and Bud will be going home this week and the other Ernie is going to have a home inspection next week.    This is such good news.    We want it too.

Now I am watching the first show of Dancing With The Stars.   My only reality/contesty type of show.  So far it is very entertaining.

So.  You sleep well and have a wonderful tomorrow.

God love you

Mary

Here is the answer to yesterday's question.

A rather misty Sunday but not too cold.   I actually wish there had been a little more rain.   I may have to do some watering tomorrow or the next day.

I went over to Rocky Knoll at 9AM so that I could spend a couple of hours with Dick before going to St. John the Baptist Church for the 1:00PM 150th Anniversary Mass.    Archbishop Listecki officiated with 7 priests assisting.       Before Mass there was a musical presentation prepared by all three of the parish choirs,  the adult choir, the folk choir and the children's choir.     It was truly beautiful.    The choirs are all SO good and we have such an array of talented instrumentalists that play in all of the choirs.

The procession was quite impressive too.   First the cross and the servers, then the Knights of Columbus, then the priests and finally the Archbishop.

He does a good sermon too.     Fr Van Beeck is still looking real frail from that spill he took earlier this year but he is in good spirits and got a lovely standing ovation after Mass when the Archbishop lauded him for the job he as done as our pastor the past years.

I went to the reception so that I could meet the Archbishop.  He is very personable and I told him that I had also celebrated Mass at Irishfest.  So we talked a bit.

I hung out with several friends, surprise Surprise.   But I was home by 3:45PM and took a nice nap.   They had a lovely spread.   Cheese, sausage, crackers, grapes, cookies, cake, wine, beer, punch and coffee.   I had a plate of the snacks and a glass of punch.

I had put a pork roast and sauerkraut in the crock pot so I had a nice warm supper about 5:30PM.   Sure was good.   I will be eating sauerkraut for the next week I guess.

Tomorrow starts the week in earnest.   I am going to Writer's Club in the afternoon so will not get to Rocky Knoll until close to 3PM.   So I will have supper with Dick instead of lunch.

So sleep tight and have a perfect week.

Mary

Here is a question for you.   Do you know the answer?   I will tell you tomorrow.

1. How
many steps does the guard take during his walk
across the tomb of the Unknowns
and
why?
